Carcross

If you’re looking for a truly unique and immersive experience, you simply have to check out Carcross. This little gem of a city has something for everyone, whether you’re into natural wonders, history, or culture.

For starters, you should venture out to the nearby Carcross Desert – that’s right, a desert in the middle of the Yukon! It’s a surreal experience, to say the least. The contrast between the sandy dunes and the surrounding greenery is truly something to behold, and I felt like I had been transported to a completely different world.

But that’s not all – Carcross is also home to a stunning lake, lake Bennett. You can even take a ride on the White Pass & Yukon Route train to Skagway, Alaska and if you’re interested in learning more about the region’s history, you can explore the gold rush exhibits in White Pass & Yukon Route building. The views from the train are nothing short of jaw-dropping, with soaring peaks and beautiful lakes stretching out in all directions.

And here’s a little fun fact for you – did you know that Carcross was originally called Caribou Crossing? That’s right, it was named for the caribou that used to migrate through the area each year.

All in all, I have to say that Carcross is a place that truly captures the essence of the Yukon, with its rich history, and warm hospitality. So, if you’re looking to explore this region from a different angle and be a good tourist, this village should definitely be at the top of your list.

Emerald Lake

While on my way to Carcross, I got to see one of the most beautiful lakes I had ever seen, Emerald Lake. The different shades of blue between the snow and some green tree colour really caught my eye. You could see the view from the road and even stop to get a better look. There were also panels explaining to us what phenomenon allowed the lake to get these magnificent colours. This experience is a part of the best ones I had here because it got me to learn about interesting things about nature while having an alluring adventure. So, if you ever find yourself in the Carcross area, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for this stunning lake – it’s a sight you won’t soon forget.

One of the most entertaining and extraordinary sport activities I did was fat biking! It was a completely new experience for me, and it certainly did not disappoint.

Riding through the snow on a fat bike was an entirely different feeling compared to regular biking. At first, I was a bit nervous, but as soon as I started pedalling, I could feel my adrenaline levels shooting up. The cold air brushing past my face as I sped along the snow-covered trails was incredibly invigorating.

I went on the Fish Lake tour, which was absolutely amazing! It allowed me to explore the wilderness from a completely different angle. The views were breathtaking, and I even got to bike on some frozen lakes! The experience of biking through the wild and seeing some of the wildlife like mountain goats was unforgettable.

Towards the end of the tour, my legs were aching, but the sense of accomplishment and thrill I felt made it all worth it. It was the perfect way to spend a day in the Yukon wilderness. I would love to try some other tours to see different horizons mountain biking because summer season is approaching!

To conclude, fat biking is an activity that is bound to get your heart racing and leave you with unforgettable memories of the wilderness.

“After spending a year studying in Sherbrooke, Quebec, I got a great change of scenery coming to the Yukon. I love it here, the nature is incredible and the people are lovely! Working at Neighbourly North is a real opportunity and a fun experience for me. Being used to travelling and using short-term rentals, I am more than motivated to spend my time here being as useful as possible. So far, my experience has been incredibly enriching.”
